_I Am A Fool

Comparing myself to my generation, my age group,
my cultural and social context,
to those I grew up with over the years
living a life of material complex,

I realize that it would be to no surprise
if a novel fool is what I would be oftenly categorized.

Two years removed from College and Academics,
left far behind from what my contemporaries have achieved.

Shoes, and clothes,
drinks, lights and smoke flows,
I have nothing of that,
but I have a God that’s worth infinitely more than all that.

I don’t have fancy pictures of beaches and planes.
I don’t have stories of excitement, adventure and games.

Celebrations and cakes, money and friends,
though to the world, are noble and true,
to me the beauty these behold are far from true.

I Am A Fool.

If to the world a fool
is a person who, instead of being with men
spends more time with the great I Am
then I’ll gladly be that fool.

If to the world a fool
is a person who would rather peruse the Word and
expositions of faithful old and dead men
rather than go out to parties and social gatherings
the enjoyment of life, vanities, necklaces and rings,
then I’ll gladly be that fool.

If to the world a fool
is a person who would spend time in prayer,
crying out to God to conform him greater to the Savior
warring against sin,
striving for more of godliness and Christ’s holiness

rather than being engaged in the activities of the world,
travel, vacations, singing songs in fleshly accord,
then I’ll gladly be that fool.

If to the world a fool
is a person who would rather spend his resources,
money, earned income from much hard labor,
only for the family,
for books, and gems for training in Christ-ianity

materials that would help raise the banner of the God and King,
rather than spending and investing in vain living,
cars and gadgets, a mansion in high-street,
living high, living large, wasting my life for earthly things,
then I’ll gladly be that fool.

I Am A Fool.

“I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:24)

“…lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:20)

  1. Glad fools we are.

Jim, the other day at work, one of the men was talking about how much he enjoys drugs. I thought about that as I drove to work singing an old hymn, nearly in tears at the beauty of the world he made, of the love He has shed, and I thought: there are drugs that affect our soul through the body. But there is a drug that affects our soul through the Spirit. To be filled with Him is the most incredible experience, and had simply. Just as people become fools for the drugs for their body, we, too, become fools, filled with such joy, setting everything earthly aside to seek Him only, His glory only.

Keep encouraging us with your work, brother.
