_What Grace is This?!—A Gospel Confession and Proclamation

What grace is this,
given to me one so drowned in deep unholiness.
Marred with deep sinfulness.
God went so deep to save such wretchedness?

What grace is this?
To one such as I, spat on the Father
trampled upon the Son,
almost blaspheming the Spirit,
the Triune God the infinitely Holy One?

What grace is this?
In all my life I have done nothing but this,
I lived for myself, loved nothing but my life
Feeding my ego caring nothing about Jesus Christ!

What grace is this?
To one so depraved like me,
drinking iniquity like water
living in self-righteousness,
such an abomination to God the Creator

—the Creator, of Heaven and Earth
of everything in the Universe
He is of eternal worth.

He is worthy of Praise,
Worthy of Worship,
Worthy of Honor.
Yet in all my life I’ve been nothing but a slave
A slave to my father

—the Devil.
The deceiver.
The prince of the power of the air.
Slave of Satan and sin.
Yet in all my bondage and rebellion
You sent Your Son to die, the God of all creation?

He is the infinitely Holy One
He was eternally with You
sharing in harmony, the glory
the love, You were in all sufficiency.

Yet the Son stepped down
from eternal glory
to save someone like me
to become an object of God’s unending mercy?

What grace is this?
What grace is this?
The lowest of the low to be lifted up in Christ?
An abominable being regenerated by the Spirit given eternal life?

What grace is this?
Do you understand why I am even asking this?
Have you seen the depths of your own depravity?
The sinful wickedness bursting forth from your heart full of idolatry?

You see sin as nothing serious.
A lie, a false witness
something of no serious

—repercussions.
A look with lust, a heart of hate
something of no evil weight?

Don’t you see that every sinful act
each and every single minute sin
is infinitely detested by Him?

It’s lawlessness, a burst of haughtiness
lifting up our hands in fists
against His glorious face
shaking our fists in fits of rage!

Shouting to God “I love my sin! I love my self!
I don’t care about you! I live life for myself!”

Then we say in the same heartbeat,
“Hey I’m a good person. I’m going to Heaven.”
“Good people go to Heaven right?”
Nothing’s further from the truth,
No one can enter but through Jesus Christ!

We treated God like feces, like piss in the gutter,
then we expect to die and be with the Father?!

No! It’s not true!
We’re all dead in sin, deserving of wrath!
Nothing but condemnation an unending Hell-fire bath!

Yet all this is just.
God is Holy, righteous and good.
He would never send someone like you and me to Heaven
no He never could!

Because He can not contradict His nature
He must punish sin, He must punish sinners
From spiritual death, eternity in Hell is the only wager!

But then…
Even in all that…
In all our sin…
In all our disgusting wickedness…
Our treating God as something worthless…

In all that, He sent His Son,
took the form of a man,
fully God, fully man,
lived a holy perfect life, like no one can ever do
impossible for any of us, no not even you!

And then…
Sinners like us hated Him
It’s the greatest display of the evil within.
to crucify the Son of God, the Holy One, yes it is Him.

He was given so many thorns, whips and lashes
so much so that organ and bone can be clearly seen from those open gashes.

Such was the physical sufferings of Christ.
But it wasn’t over. Not even close.
The worst of it came
when God the Father Himself joined in in the game.
He poured out His eternal wrath,
Christ suffered eternal torment and pain!

On that Cross He took our eternal punishment!
The torment and condemnation we deserve,
He became our substitutionary atonement!

He died taking our sin
all the extents of our depravity
the full extents of the the punishment we deserved
He took it all, He took it all with Him

He bore our shame,
He took all the blame
Christ died our death
and in 3 days, Hallelujah!
He rose from the grave!

His substitution was sufficient
His atonement was acceptable
The Sacrifice for sin
All God’s people can now be redeemed!

Oh sinner! Won’t you then ask with me,
What grace is this?! What grace is this?!
For Christ to die for me, God’s Son Himself,
taking my sin and death,
and in exchange nothing but eternal bliss??

What grace is this?!
Oh, what grace is this!
If you’re not saved this moment
repent from your sins and believe this
This is the Gospel
Trust in Christ alone He really saves,
from wrath, sin and Hell!

Repent from your sins, trust in Jesus Christ
He will change you and give you life
Giving you the power to live right,
the fruits of a born again life!

And the best thing is, we have peace with God
eternity with Him, with our Savior Himself
the joy of the Lord, He is our eternal wealth!

Oh, what grace is this?!
What grace is this?!
What grace is this?!

If you are a Christian this moment
Confessing Christ
Then fall flat on your face
and worship the King of kings
the Lord of lords
the Alpha and Omega
who by grace alone, saved such wretched sinners as we are
our Lord God and Savior, Jesus Christ!
